Most people image a bird flying to the entrance of their cage, then proceeding
to enter the cage. This is true but these members of the Cockatoo family have an alternative strategy to
get in and out of their cages. As you can see in the video clip, they climb up and down the cages using
their feet and beaks. When I saw Pretty Boy do this, I was surprised. After getting the other birds, I
found that they can do the same thing. You may have noticed that Spike didn't enter the cage when he got
to the entrance. Carly has laid a clutch of eggs in the cage and she will beat Spike up if he enters.
Another thing that they do is what I call "Batwings". They do this when they want to be picked up.
I put my hand underneath them by their feet and they drop on. The flapping of wings or just
landing on me is one of the usual ways to get attention. Sugar got my attention one time by landing on
my chest and laying an egg. FREAK OUT!!! They can also fly through the house at top speed with great
manoeuvrability. It is a known fact that they are one of the fastest of parrots. I have also seen them
stop in mid-flight and reverse direction.
